HeartLakeNature.ca introduces you to the wildlife that shares our cities by taking a deep dive into one 169-hectare conservation park run by the Toronto and Region Conservation authority.
Heart Lake Conservation Park is located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, at 10818 Heart Lake Road. It is surrounded by busy roads and residential neighbourhoods.
Most people visit the park to picnic, fish, rent a boat, attend a day camp, or try the zip lines and splash pad. Cyclists, joggers and dog walkers frequent the woodland trails.
But many of those visitors are missing something important—the nature all around them. By focusing on just one small area, and seeing how much there is to find —if you slow down, listen and look—HeartLakeNature.ca aims to raise awareness of the rich variety of species that inhabit our cities—and of what's at stake as those cities continue to grow.
Local resident Andrew Skelly took all the photographs on this website within Heart Lake Conservation Park or the immediately surrounding area during the past several years. Together, they document more than 100 different species—including year-round residents, summer visitors and migrating birds.
